critique

my concentration is portraying the human figure through the use of the elements and principles of art (each piece represents a different element/principle)

i chose this concentration because i thought it would be a good challenge for me, and it would push me to think of new concepts and use different mediums

1.movement. for this piece i drew the figure using graphite, colored pencil, and black paper. instead of simply using the same medium for the background, i cut the figure out and pasted it onto a wash with watercolor. these two pieces are similar in the sense that i used a variety of mediums and layering of the paper. it kept me interested because it was a new take on my style.
2.shape. its hard to tell from the photograph, but the piece on the right i made from different colors and shapes of cut-out paper. while i was cutting out the black pieces, i decided i really liked how the black paper looked with the shapes cut out and the negative space it created, so i decided to incorporate that into my finished piece. this piece was challenging for me because i'm used to painting and drawing, but this time i had to create a somewhat abstract representation of a person using paper. because of this, i had to use different colors and layers of paper to create depth.

encaustic

i dont like encaustic. its really frustrating. i guess part of the problem is i didnt really know what i was going for in the beginning, i kinda just started to create and i thought i was going to see what happened as i went along. i think im going to save my encaustic piece for next month because im stuck on it.

february.

my concentration is portraying the human figure through the use of the principles and elements of art and design.
so far i've done five pieces:
the one where the guys look naked: form
the contour drawing: line
the colorful one of the girl jumping: color
the one with the cutout pieces of paper: shape
the skateboarding guy: movement
piece #1
for my contrast piece i want to do something with stop-motion photography. i want to do either someone jumping, like in this picture, or a ballerina.i made a background on canvas with black and white vertical stripes, and i was thinking of drawing out the figure and making it the contrasting color to the area it is in, but i'm not sure if i want to change the background.
piece #2
for my value piece, i want to do a really detailed graphite drawing and then experiment with textures and colors in the background.
i haven't really been into doing art lately.i guess i just haven't found a piece im really excited about doing, so hopefully i can get back into it by this month.
